Harmony Through Education
Harmony Through Education (Harmony) was founded in 2006 by then 23 year-old Seth Shaffer. Seth spent close to five months in India volunteering and working with mentally and physically challenged children. He worked in a village called Dharamsala, which is located in the foothills of the Himalayas and has a population of 20,000. There was no school for the special needs population in all of Dharamsala. At the request of local community members Seth agreed to return to the U.S., raise funds, and create a school for the special needs children of Dharamsala. In July of 2008, we opened the Harmony School for special needs children. Harmony’s mission is to expand the Dharamsala school, fully develop and validate its instructional methodologies, and then create similar schools throughout India.
